Mammography Preparation
- After washing the morning of your examination, DO NOT apply deodorant, powder, lotions or perfume to the breast until after the examination
Abdominal Ultrasound Preparation (above the belly button)
- Nothing to eat or drink eight hours prior to examination time
Pelvic and Obstetrical Ultrasound Preparation (below the belly button)
- Nothing to eat four hours prior to the examination time
- Two hours before examination time empty bladder and begin drinking 40 ounces of water. A full bladder is required for this examination and you will be allowed to empty your bladder immediately following the examination.
Prostate Ultrasound Preparation
- Administer a Fleets enema about 90 minutes before examination
- Immediately after administering the enema, drink 16 ounces of water. You will be allowed to empty your bladder immediately following the examination.
Abdominal Aorta Ultrasound Screening
- Nothing to eat (4) hours prior to your screening.
- If you take medication, we ask that you take it as prescribed.
- If you are diabetic and are not comfortable fasting, please limit yourself to a "diabetic meal" (piece of toast, 1 cup of any kind of juice and 1/2 cup coffee or tea). If you are in doubt, please follow your diabetic care plan.
Peripheral Arterial Disease Ultrasound Screening
- You will be asked to remove your socks and shoes.
Carotid/Stroke Ultrasound Screening
Barium Enema Preparation
- Not to be performed within 14 days following a colon or rectal biopsy
- Administer Fleet Prep Kit 2 following the 48 hour instructions (Kit may be found at your local drugstore like Walgreen’s)
- Nothing to eat or drink after midnight (the evening prior to the exam) until the test is completed
- No smoking after midnight (the evening prior to the exam) until the test is completed
Upper GI Preparation
- Nothing to eat or drink after midnight (the evening prior to the exam) until the test is completed
- No smoking after midnight (the evening prior to the exam) until the test is completed
IVP Preparation
- The day before examination at 2 p.m., take two Ducolax tables or one dose of Magnesium Citrate.
- Clear liquid supper and clear liquids freely until four hours before the examination.
- If this study is to be followed by a Barium Enema, please follow the Barium Enema preparation
CT (Computed Tomography) Preparation
- For Abdominal and Pelvic CTs, obtain a bottle of EZ-CAT from your physician’s office or from our imaging centers and follow instructions for use. You will begin taking the EZ-CAT the day prior to your examination.
- For this and all other CT studies, nothing to eat four hours prior to the scheduled time of examination
- Please bring most recent x-rays of the area to be scanned to the office for comparison
Examination Special Notes:
- Please call The Imaging Center if you have a personal history of iodine/contrast allergy
- Take medications as you normally would with a small amount of water and bring a list of medications you are currently taking
- For DIABETIC patients taking GLUCOPHAGE receiving IV Contrast Media: Glucophage should be stopped at the time of your procedure and may be restarted 48 hours after the procedure.
