Turn-Around-Time (TAT) – Kettering Health Network
How is it Measured?
- TAT Clock Starts upon completion of the exam, when the Technologist ends the exam on the Radiology Information System, enters the time and initiates the sending of images to PACS (Viewing System)
- The TAT Clock Ends when the Radiologist verifies the transcribed report

Improvements Coming:
- EPIC – Fully integrated Electronic Medical Record allowing access to all results in a single application
- Integrated Voice Recognition (VR) to further reduce time to report verification
Critical Call Reports
Prior to 2006 there was no audit trail in place to
Measure Critical Call Report Results
Since instituting Critical Call measurements, the
Turn-around-time has been steadily improving.
A Critical Call is defined as an imaging finding
- That represents an acute, life-threatening emergency
- Measured from completion of study to documented contact with referring physician
- Examples:
All Hyperacute Brain CTs
Ectopic Pregnancy
Dissecting Aortic Aneurysm
Pulmonary Embolism
- Documentation becomes part of patient’s permanent medical record
KNRI Critical Call Report Results
- Benchmark = 60 minutes
- Average = 7.2 minutes
- Most recent period: 100% CCRs met or exceeded benchmark standard

Quality Assurance – 99.5% Agreement
Since 2005 our Peer-to-Peer Review Results find that in more than 99.5% of the studies reviewed there has been no significant disagreement with the original report

What does it all mean?
